Garbolino Reel Match Feeder Blue 459FD 4500

Garbolino Reel Match Feeder Blue 459FD 4500

Strike the perfect balance between agile handling and raw cranking power with the Garbolino Reel Match Feeder Blue 459FD. At Gerrys Fishing, we often find that while the massive 5500 reels are great for distance, they can feel a bit top-heavy on shorter 9ft or 10ft rods. The 4500 size is the Goldilocks of the rangeperfectly sized for mid-range feeder work and heavy-duty float fishing without compromising on the high-end features that define the Blue Match series.

The 459FD is a high-performance machine, featuring 9 silky-smooth ball bearings that provide an effortless retrieve even under the load of a hard-fighting commercial carp. The 45 denotes the versatile 4500 body size, while the 9FD highlights the premium bearing count and ultra-precise front drag system. This reel is built with a shallow, large-diameter aluminum spool, designed specifically for modern thin-diameter monos and braids, ensuring your line lays perfectly flat for maximum casting efficiency.

Finished in a striking metallic blue, this reel features the same rugged internal engineering as its larger siblings, including twin spring-loaded metal line clips that allow for pinpoint accuracy across two separate lines of attack.

Detailed Specifications

Where to Use

• Mid-Range Commercial Feeders: The 4500 size is arguably the best all-rounder for 10ft and 11ft bomb or method feeder rods. It provides enough winding power to ship in fish quickly but keeps the overall setup balanced and light in the hand.

• Pellet Waggler Tactics: When you are constantly casting and retrieving to create a feeding splashing effect, the 9-bearing system and 5.0:1 ratio make the process effortless, reducing wrist fatigue over a five-hour match.

• Small to Medium Rivers: Ideal for targeting chub and barbel on smaller rivers where you dont need the bulk of a 5500 reel but still require a reliable drag and enough grunt to pull fish away from near-bank snags.

• The Bomb Line: Perfect for fishing the straight lead on a clip. The twin metal clips allow you to have your primary feeder line set on one clip and a backup short line on the other for when fish move closer in.

Pro Tip

Gerrys Pro Tip: To get the absolute best longevity out of your 459FD, dont rely solely on the reels drag when a big carp makes a sudden dash under the rod tip. We recommend back-winding or using the front drag in conjunction with a finger on the spool rim for ultimate control. Also, because this spool is shallow, you dont need hundreds of meters of backingsimply fill it with your chosen 6lb or 8lb mono until its roughly 1mm from the spool lip for the smoothest possible casting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this reel better for float or feeder?

The 459FD is a true hybrid. While the Match Feeder name suggests one use, the 4500 size and 5.0:1 ratio make it one of the best pellet waggler reels on the market. It is versatile enough to handle a 60g method feeder or a 10g float with equal ease.

Are the line clips braid safe?

Yes. Unlike cheap plastic clips that can have sharp edges, the twin metal clips on the Garbolino Blue range are spring-loaded and smooth-finished. They are designed to hold braid securely without fraying or damaging the fibers during high-impact casts.

What is the benefit of the Front Drag (FD) over a Rear Drag?

Front drag systems generally feature larger washers and a more direct connection to the spool. This results in a much smoother, more consistent release of line under pressure, which is vital when you are using light hooklengths for big fish.

Does it come with a spare spool?

The 459FD is typically supplied with one premium aluminum shallow spool. Because it is a specialized match reel, the spool is designed to take the exact amount of line needed for match fishing without the need for excessive backing.
