Abel Vaya 5/6 Black Underwood On The Hunt Fly Reel

The Abel Vaya 5/6 Underwood On The Hunt Fly Reel is a premium large-arbor fly reel that blends refined craftsmanship, technical innovation, and exceptional fish-fighting performance.

Designed by passionate Colorado anglers, the Vaya series delivers the versatility needed for everything from freshwater trout and steelhead to light saltwater applications.

The Vaya features a distinctive partially ported frame that strikes an ideal balance between weight reduction and structural rigidity. This unique design provides outstanding strength while showcasing Abel’s renowned hand-anodized finishes. Inside the frame, intricate CNC-milled fly pattern engravings add a thoughtful touch that reflects the reel’s intended fishing applications.

At the heart of the Vaya is a precision-engineered large-arbor spool paired with a dual-pawl drag engagement system. This innovative design eliminates the need for a counterweight while maintaining smooth, balanced performance throughout the retrieve. The incoming click provides satisfying feedback, while the outgoing drag delivers the signature sound and smooth operation Abel reels are known for.

A carbon and stainless steel multi-disc drag system generates impressive stopping power while offering a broad range of fine adjustments, making it equally capable of protecting light tippets and controlling powerful fish. The result is a reel that performs with confidence across a wide variety of fishing environments.
