At Gerrys Fishing, we are always on the lookout for gear that offers anglers genuine versatility without compromising on performance. The Akios Kyori 405 TT SRS is a standout example of modern rod engineering, effectively giving you two high-performance rods for the price of one. This 13ft 6 2-piece powerhouse is designed for the angler who refuses to be pigeonholed into one style of fishing.
The Twin Tip (TT) concept is the heart of the Kyori 405. By providing both a sensitive Hybrid Tip and a stiff Power Tip, Akios has created a rod that can transition from delicate summer flatfish work to winching winter cod out of a heavy swell in seconds. Built on a high-modulus 30T carbon blank with a raw carbon wrap butt section, the Kyori delivers immense power through the lower sections while maintaining the finesse required to spot shy bites at distance.
Versatility is the defining trait of the Kyori 405. Depending on the conditions and your target species, you can completely change the rods character:
The Hybrid Tip (3.5oz 6oz): Perfect for clean ground and summer species like Bass, Flatfish, and Bream. The softer tip cushions delicate baits (like maddies or soft peelers) during the cast and provides exceptional bite registration even when fishing with a bow in the line.
The Power Tip (4oz 8oz): When the sea turns angry or youre targeting hard-fighting Smoothhounds or Rays, the Power Tip takes over. It provides the rigidity needed to cast 7oz or 8oz leads and the backbone to steer large fish through mixed ground or tide.

Clean Beach Surf: Switch to the Hybrid Tip for ultimate sensitivity when targeting silver fish or scratching for flatfish in the breakers.
Deep Water Estuaries: The 13ft 6 length provides excellent line clearance over the tide, while the 30T carbon handles the heavy leads required to hold bottom in fast water.
Traveling Light: Because its a 2-piece rod with two tips, its the ultimate one-rod-does-all for fishing trips where space is limited.
The Sliding Reel Seat (SRS) on the Kyori 405 is a game-changer for those who havent committed to one reel type. If youre using a Fixed Spool, slide the seat up to find that perfect balance point for your casting hand. If you switch to a Multiplier for a night session, slide it down to the low-mount position to give yourself better thumb control. Also, look at the jointsAkios has included Japanese shrink wrap specifically to help you pull the rod apart when your hands are wet or cold. Its those small details that make this a joy to fish with.
Is a 13ft 6 2-piece rod difficult to transport?
Because the sections are of equal length (plus the tips), each section is approximately 6ft 9. This fits comfortably into most medium-to-large estate cars or on a roof rack. If you have a very small hatchback, we recommend measuring your interior space first.
Can I use braid with the SeaGuide rings?
Yes. The SeaGuide Anti-Tangle guides are high-quality, ceramic-lined rings designed specifically to handle the friction and heat generated by braided mainlines as well as traditional monofilament.
Does the sliding reel seat stay secure during a big cast?
Absolutely. The Akios SRS is a heavy-duty screw-lock system. Once tightened down on your reel foot, it is incredibly stable. Its designed to handle the torque of an 8oz off-the-ground cast without budging.
Which tip is better for night fishing?
Both tips are designed for performance, but if youre targeting larger fish in the dark, the Power Tip offers more stability in the tripod. However, the Hybrid Tip is often preferred by match anglers at night to spot the tiny rattles of whiting and pouting.
