At Gerrys Fishing, we believe that fish safety is the most important factor in modern carp angling. For years, helicopter and Chod rig users faced a significant hurdle: how to ensure the hooklink could travel safely over leader knots or spliced loops if the mainline broke, especially when weed or debris was involved. The Korda Leadcore Chod Safety System is the definitive answer to that problema genuine industry first that has redefined rotary-rig safety.
The heart of this system is the revolutionary No-Trace Bead. Unlike traditional beads that have small bores and can get stuck on knots, the No-Trace Bead features a large bore and a clever side slot. Once the bead pops off the tapered Chod Sleeve under pressure, it falls away from the leader entirely. This leaves the hooklinks ring swivel completely free to slide over any knots, weed, or leader joins, ensuring the fish is never left tethered to the lead or leader.
Total Ejection Reliability: The No-Trace design ensures that the hooklink can always ditch the leader and lead in the event of a breakage, regardless of how much weed has collected on the line.
Large Bore Technology: The hard plastic No-Trace beads are designed to pass over any obstruction easily before falling off the line via the side slot.
Streamlined Components: The kit includes specially designed Chod Sleeves and Barrel Beads that create a neat, aerodynamic profile for long-distance casting.
Voted Industry Best: This system solved a decade-old problem for leadcore users, making it the gold standard for safe rotary-rig fishing.
Universal Swivel Fit: Optimized for use with Size-11 Ring Swivels, which are the industry standard for Chod and helicopter presentations.

The Classic Chod Rig: This is the essential safety setup for any Chod rig. It allows you to position your hooklink anywhere on the leader while knowing that it is 100% safe for the fish.
Weedy Venues: In lakes choked with Canadian pondweed, debris often collects around leader knots. The No-Trace system is the only way to guarantee a fish can jettison the lead if it gets stuck in a weed bed after a line break.
Extreme Distance Casting: The components are designed to stay in place during the most powerful casts but release instantly when needed.
Fishing Over Silt or Chod: Use the Barrel Beads to set the depth of your hooklink, ensuring your bait sits perfectly on top of the debris while the lead plugs into the silt.
The Wet and Test Protocol:
Before you cast out, always ensure you moisten the Chod Sleeve and the leader with a bit of lake water or saliva. This prevents the rubber from sticking to the leadcore due to friction. Once wet, perform a quick test: slide the No-Trace bead off the sleeve and ensure it pops free and falls away as intended. A one-second check on the bank ensures your rig is performing at peak safety levels!
Is this system only for Chod rigs?
While its the primary choice for Chods, it is equally effective for standard helicopter rigs where you want to ensure the hooklink can slide safely off the leader in the event of a crack-off.
What happens to the No-Trace bead after it pops off?
The bead is designed to fall off the line entirely. While this means you lose the bead, it is a small price to pay to ensure a fish isnt tethered to a heavy lead and leader. Replacement No-Trace beads are available separately at Gerrys.
Why do I need a Barrel Bead?
The Barrel Bead acts as the stopper for your hooklink. You slide it onto the leader to determine how far up the leader you want your Chod rig to sit. It provides the resistance needed for the hook to prick the fish, but slides down easily under the pressure of a hooked fish to activate the safety release.
Can I use this on Naked Chod rigs (straight to mainline)?
Korda produces a specific Naked Chod Safety System with different internal diameters for use directly on mainline. This specific version is precision-sized to fit leadcore and fused leaders.
