Last Chance Cripple – PMD

Rene Harrops Last Chance Cripple is a refined mayfly imitation designed for the most selective trout and technical dry fly situations. Created to represent a crippled PMD mayflyone that is partially emerged or struggling at the surfaceits a deadly pattern when trout refuse fully hatched duns. The flys delicate and realistic profile makes it a favorite for spring creeks, tailwaters, and calm slicks where fish feed cautiously, especially on famed waters like Idahos Henrys Fork.

Tied with a slender body and soft CDC wing, the Last Chance Cripple lands lightly on the water and maintains buoyancy without disrupting the surface film. Its sparse construction provides a subtle, natural silhouette that mimics the vulnerability of an emerging insect, triggering confident eats from wary trout. This pattern excels during hatches when fish are keying in on cripples and emergers rather than adults, and it remains one of the most trusted flies in Harrops lineup.
