The PENN Battalion Solid Jigging rod represents a massive leap forward in blank technology. At Gerrys Fishing, we are particularly impressed by the Solid Spiral Armor construction. Unlike traditional hollow rods, this blank is built from a solid core, making it virtually unbreakable under the strain of deep-water predators while remaining incredibly thin and sensitive.
What sets this specific model apart is the Spiral Guide (Acid Wrap) configuration. By rotating the guides around the blank, the line eventually runs underneath the rod. This prevents the torque twist that usually occurs with overhead reels under heavy load, ensuring the rod stays stable in your hands and the line never touches the blank. If you are targeting hard-fighting species in deep water, this rod offers the ultimate mechanical advantage.
Solid Spiral Armor Technology: A solid carbon blank that offers unbeatable lifting power and limitless bend without snapping.
Spiral Mounted Fuji Alconite Guides: Reduces rod twist and improves direct pull strength, extending the life of your line and rod.
Palm Support System (PSS): An ergonomic reel seat designed specifically to reduce hand fatigue during grueling fights with big fish.
Short 1-Piece Design: At 59, this rod provides maximum leverage. The shorter the rod, the less the fish can use the rod as a lever against you.
High-Density EVA Handle: Provides a non-slip, comfortable grip even when covered in salt spray or fish slime.

This rod was Custom Designed for Scandinavian Boat Fishing, but it is a perfect match for several UK and European scenarios:
Norway Expedition Fishing: The ultimate tool for targeting massive Halibut and trophy-sized Skrei (Cod). Its 300g rating allows you to work heavy jigs in deep fjords.
UK Wrecking: Ideal for deep-water wrecking in the English Channel or the Irish Sea for large Pollack, Ling, and Cod.
Speed Jigging: The solid blank is perfect for high-pitch jigging movements where you need a responsive tip but a bottomless backbone.
Slow Pitch Jigging: While a heavy model, it offers enough sensitivity in the tip to work 200g300g slow jigs for specimen predators.
Pro Tip 1: Why the Spiral? Dont be alarmed that the guides wrap around the rodits intentional! By moving the line to the underside of the rod, you eliminate the tendency for the rod to want to flip over in your hand when a big fish dives. It makes a 15-minute fight feel like 5 minutes.
Pro Tip 2: Reel Pairing. To get the most out of the PSS reel seat and spiral guides, pair this with a high-quality narrow-spool multiplier or overhead jigging reel (like a Penn Fathom II or US Senator). This setup keeps the center of gravity low and perfectly balanced.
Why is it only one piece?
A one-piece solid blank offers a perfect, uninterrupted arc under load. It eliminates the weak point of a joint, ensuring that the incredible lifting power of the Solid Spiral Armor technology is never compromised.
Can I use a spinning (fixed spool) reel on this?
No. This rod is specifically designed for overhead/multiplier reels. The reel seat and the spiral guide orientation are engineered to work with the reel sitting on top of the rod.
Is a 300g rod too stiff for smaller fish?
While this rod is built for power, the Solid blank technology is surprisingly sensitive. You will still feel the tap of a 5lb Pollack, but youll have the peace of mind knowing you can handle a 50lb+ Halibut if it hit your jig.
How do I transport a 59 one-piece rod?
Because it is relatively short (just under 1.8m), it fits easily in most rod tubes and across the interior of many SUVs and vans. We always recommend a padded rod sleeve to protect the Fuji guides during transit.
