Penn Conflict II Longcast 4000

The PENN Conflict II Longcast 4000 is a fixed spool reel that is an excellent choice for anglers who need a lightweight reel with the ability to cast long distances. Its the smallest model in the Conflict II Longcast series, making it a perfect partner for lighter rods and fine lines, a scenario that is increasingly popular for UK shore and estuary fishing. The Conflict II series is known for its light weight, smooth operation, and sleek design, making it a reliable and attractive option for those who are constantly casting and retrieving.

Core Specifications and Technology

• Rigid Resin (RR30) Body and Rotor: A key feature that sets the Conflict II apart is its construction with RR30 (Rigid Resin). This carbon-infused material is incredibly lightweight and rigid, allowing PENN to create one of their lightest spinning reels. The 4000 size weighs a mere 388g, which significantly reduces angler fatigue during long sessions of casting and retrieving.
• CNC Gear Technology: The reel is powered by CNC (Computer Numerical Control) gear technology. This precision machining process ensures that the gears are perfectly aligned and mesh smoothly, resulting in a silky-smooth retrieve and exceptional durability under pressure.
• Longcast Spool and Slow Oscillation: The reels name Longcast is well-earned. It features an aluminium longcast spool and a slow oscillation system that lays the line in a near-perfect, parallel pattern. This meticulous line lay minimizes friction as the line peels off the spool, allowing for significantly further casting distances. The spool also features PENNs Superline Spool design, which has a rubber gasket that prevents braided line from slipping without the need for mono backing.
• HT-100 Carbon Fiber Drag System: The Conflict II 4000 is equipped with PENNs renowned HT-100 carbon fiber drag washers. This system provides a consistently smooth and powerful drag, with a maximum drag force of around 5.9kg (13 lbs). This is more than enough stopping power for a variety of UK species.
• Smooth Bearing System: The reel is fitted with a 7+1 sealed stainless steel ball bearing system. The sealed design helps to protect the bearings from saltwater and other contaminants, ensuring long-term performance and a smooth retrieve. The high number of bearings also contributes to the reels overall smooth feel.

Why Its Perfect for UK Fishing

The PENN Conflict II Longcast 4000 is an excellent choice for the modern UK angler who embraces lighter tackle and dynamic fishing styles.

1. Lightweight for Active Angling: Its ultra-light weight makes it a fantastic partner for modern, lightweight rods, such as those used for bass fishing with lures or for estuary fishing. It allows you to cast all day without the arm fatigue associated with heavier surf reels.
2. Casting Performance: The dedicated longcast spool and slow oscillation system are a major advantage, helping anglers to achieve impressive distances with relatively light weights. This is crucial for reaching distant marks from the shore.
3. Versatility: While its perfect for bass fishing, its line capacity and powerful drag make it a versatile reel that can handle other species as well, such as schoolie bass, flounder, and other smaller estuary species.
4. Durable and Reliable: Despite its light weight, the RR30 body and CNC gears ensure the reel is tough enough to stand up to the rigours of saltwater fishing. The sealed bearings and HT-100 drag also provide a high degree of reliability in harsh conditions.
